We have an Alexa which is always asking for our shopping list, I\u2019m not sure how this would help unless I take the device to the shops. I have this strange, almost technical feeling, that if I unplugged it, took it off the mantelpiece and popped it in my shopping bag, when I got to the supermarket it would have a very blank look.<\/font><\/p>\n

However, in terms of shopping lists, as it in only eight weeks to Autumn Miniatura, do you have one?<\/font><\/p>\n

I have been telling readers for 17 years what will be at Miniatura, in fact this is why the blog began.  For readers new to the miniatures hobby, in the nineties and noughties I was a columnist for dolls\u2019 house magazines.  These were glossy publications, very much coffee table decoration.  Because of high standards of reproduction there was a six month lead-in time, so that an artist making something for Miniatura, whose work had been photographed at the show and had subsequently been interviewed by me, originally over the phone because this was before the Internet, would see the results six months later.  I lost count of the times artists explained that this was not helping much.  It was filling a beautiful glossy magazine with lovely pictures and articles of great interest to collectors but the actual items depicted had often been sold at the show, occasionally minutes after they had been photographed.  This, of course, was caused by the high standard of work taken to the show by the artists who had been invited to exhibit because they were so good.<\/font><\/p>\n

Collectors who had just missed a purchase, or found something in a magazine that they would have loved to acquire, were annoyed by this and artists who had moved on to another work of art were too.  As the Internet was revving up, show visitors and exhibitors asked if I could possibly get  exhibits online just before the show.  Readers of the funny columns I wrote asked if there was any chance of having more funny stuff, not always about dolls\u2019 houses and ideally, for free.<\/font><\/p>\n

So began JaneLaverick.com, which continued because everyone said they liked it.  In time, as long term readers know (hello, how are you?)  <\/em>I had to give up magazine writing when I became carer for my demented mother because there just wasn\u2019t time to do both, but I kept on exhibiting at Miniatura for approximately a bazillion reasons.  Being associated with something which is the best in the world is not lightly relinquished.<\/font><\/p>\n

Therefore, for seventeen years I have been asking artists what they are bringing to the show, but amazingly have never asked you, if you are coming to the show as a visitor, what are you looking for?<\/font><\/p>\n

At the foot of this column is a button to click to express your opinion.  I would like to know about your collection, ideally with a photograph. I would like to know which miniatures are on your shopping list for Autumn Miniatura.  What are you hoping to find? Is it practical, such as two feet of skirting boards?  Are you looking for decorative glassware?  Are you completing a collection of paintings?  Are you hoping an order from a particular artist is ready?  Are you looking for items in a hard-to-find scale?<\/font><\/p>\n

I have frequently expressed an opinion to fellow exhibitors that, if visitors would only tell us what they wanted, that is what we would bring.  Fellow exhibitors have always responded positively and heartily agreed. Well, here is your chance.  When I was just a visitor, nearly forty years ago, there was a saying:  If it isn\u2019t at Miniatura, it doesn\u2019t exist.  This is still true.  Miniatura was founded to be the meeting point between artists and collectors and has never strayed from this lofty purpose.<\/font><\/p>\n
