As promised yesterday here is a peek at the delights of the Min. I share a stand with Bettina Kaminski, maker of the world’s smallest teddy bear. New for this show Bettina had made a mini Crufts with small and hilarious pooches executed in a type of Japanese crochet. Most of these dogs are smaller than your thumbnail.
Yesterday I showed you the St Legers setting up their stand. Here are the wonderful automata that went on it.
And here is Bettina’s son Kristof playing with them.
The Autumn Miniatura often showcases the talents of continental exhibitors making an annual appearance. One of my favourites is Elizabeth Causeret Bettler who makes hand-thrown ceramics of exquisite thinness. Elizabeth turned up at full-sized pottery shows in France with things that were ‘too small’ for years until somebody told her she was a miniaturist.
There are plenty of workshops at this show. Josephine Parnell, in a departure from her usual teddy bear dolls’ house residents, is teaching her latest kits to make needle sculpted miniature dolls.
There is no way I could begin to show you all the wonders I’ve seen today in a blog but I did think you’d be sad to miss the sight I saw on the Miss Sally World stand.
Makers are well catered for at the Min, if you’re a sew-a-holic, a look at the rolls of patterned woven silk that Hilary is leaning over on the Silk Route stand should get your needle fingers itching.
And last but not least I thought you’d like to take a look at my stand and some of the dolls that will appear in the shop, once they’ve finished appearing at the NEC.
And thoroughly enjoying them, my favourite customer, Miss Smith, and a doll friend.
If you’ve decided to come tomorrow and pay at the door, don’t forget, it’s the NEC, there are restaurants, seating areas and all the facilities you could wish for in the hall to make a lovely day out indoors, shopping. And if you decide to arrive, pop by and say hello! Details at www.miniatura.co.uk
