None of the 48th scale is there yet, I’m sorry to say, 48th scale everything will appear after Miniatura. I’m currently writing a few words for the Miniatura brochure about this scale and there will be a list of makers at the show probably on the same page.
I increasingly feel that 48th is not only the scale where you have a chance of reproducing an actual house; it’s the one in which you have most chance of finishing a house. There’s a lot of leeway as you downsize. I used to be such a perfectionist with bigger houses, I wanted everything perfect and working, so some were abandoned when I came up against a brick wall, or rather, a wooden one, of just not being able to get or make the exact miniature reproduction of reality. The smaller you go the less your expectations and the greater the fun. This is not to say that there aren’t some makers producing museum quality collectables; there are and I’ll tell you about them here as we near the time.
Happily there are also quite a few makers like me taking a relaxed attitude to prices. Their work is still top notch, professional miniaturists try harder than anyone I’ve ever met but pragmatists all, they are happy to cut some prices down to size in a recession, even though the skill is greater in smaller sizes.
So this could be a very good time to be collecting, there are bargains to be had. Talking of which, on this site, there is just one week left of free postage and packing, for any order, anywhere.
